Corydon came to be written because I saw that the Arcadia Publishing “Images of America” books were conspicuously lacking in a book about my mother’s hometown. I contacted Arcadia and asked if I might write this book. They agreed, and so it began.
I spent many hours in the Fredrick Porter Griffin Center for Genealogy and Local History, housed in the refurbished Carnegie Library in Corydon. Fred followed his parents and grandparents by creating archives about Corydon. Newspaper cuttings, books of family trees, even a scrapbook of funeral announcements, and boxes of vintage photographs are catalogued and preserved, and made available for research.
I scanned the photographs and stored them on a laptop computer until I could organize them and send them to Arcadia. I learned by doing, and – perhaps – I will try another book soon!
