I recorded this information in the summer of 2002. I have not checked it against the records supervised by Fred Griffin, on file in the genealogy center in Corydon. I recorded the approximate positions of the stones, but they were re-aligned in the 1950s or 1960s, to facilitate mowing grass. I tried to identify the type of stone [i.e. marble, granite, etc.], but I have no training in such identification. Unless specifically noted as another type of stone, I assume that most of the markers are marble.

Bill Orwick walked through the graveyard with me and noted several stones and problems. Orwick Vault and Monument has done extensive work at this graveyard. The firm realigned the stones into straight rows, and they have made replacements for some stones. Modern technology allows exact reproduction of eroding marble images in granite, a stone which became widely used only after power equipment made carving it easier and faster, therefore less expensive.

I tried diligently to make out as much as possible of all inscriptions and carvings on the stones, and I have transcribed or described them.

I plan to have a photograph of each stone, to go with the written description.

There are a number of field stones marking graves.

 If anyone knows who is buried with only a field stone marker, or who may be buried with no marker, please contact me.
